I am certain, if we ever were to ask Elijah, he would be embarrassed at how easily he allowed fear to run him out of town. But he would also tell us how the Lord loved him while he was running. He would tell us of the rest and comfort provided by God while he was quiet enough to hear Him.

There are many such stories that demonstrate the wilderness and how God uses it to clear the way for Himself. In the 21st century, we have lost the ability to wait. We have lost the reason to wait. This my friends, is by design. If you think it wasn't hard to wait in the first century, you're wrong; but it is immensely more difficult to wait in the instant age. We have been entrenched in this unseen battle since before Elijah went into that wilderness. Then enemy is gaining ground each day we do not make time for God. Each time we decide to ignore the silence. Each time we decide to take "rest" in familiar, distracting habits.

When Elijah was in the wilderness, He taught us how to rest. When Jesus was in the wilderness, He taught us how to fight. When the Israelites were in the wilderness, He taught us about provision. What will He teach when you are in the wilderness?
